Tarapaca and Antofagasta disputes and the Bolivian claim on the Antofagasta border of Chile.
Historical context:
Since the end of the Pacific War between Chile,
Bolivia and Peru; political claims about the territory between
Tacna and Antofagasta has been made by Peru and Bolivia. Peru claims about
sovereign over the Tacna border, which was conceded in 1929, were sanctioned in
the Lima Treaty between Chile and Peru, leaving the land locked situation of
Bolivia denied because Chile wasn't going to negotiate about territories that
in the past were possessions of the Peruvian State.
Actual context:
In this moment, there's a trial between Chile and
Bolivia about the obligation of Chile to negotiate a solution to the land lock
situation of Bolivia. The trial is going to be executed in the International
Court of Justice of The Hague in Nederland. The verdict will be exposed to the
public today, first of October of 2018.
Possible solution:
There're two possible solutions. First of all, the
judges could recognize the obligation of Chile to negotiate a solution to
Bolivia's land lock or, in second place, deny the Bolivian's allegations on the
obligation to negotiate about the Antofagasta and Tarapaca border from Chile,
ruining the historical pretension of Bolivia having sovereign over a portion of
the Pacific Ocean of the Bolivian President Evo Morales.
